The Sacred Harp: Album Design

The Sacred Harp is a project I was assigned during my third year in the Graphic Design program. This project required us to choose a music genre or artist and design a vinyl album cover. I chose The Sacred Harp, also known as shape note music, because it is a primitive genre that has been apart of my family for generations. In this project, I wanted to create a modernized cover for a traditional music genre. In this design, I focused on all the shapes that are found in the notes. I also used wave patterns throughout my design to represent the various voices that come together to create the music. Finally, I included traditional references to the origins of the music, such as the church and the photography used throughout my design.
